In Maywood, Illinois, volleyball is becoming more than a sport, it’s becoming a pathway to confidence, connection, and opportunity for local youth.

Through Foundation supported grant funding, Dynasty Volleyball Club launched free clinics and leagues designed to remove barriers that have historically limited access to volleyball in the community. For many families, cost, transportation, and lack of local programming have made participation difficult.

What began as an introduction to the sport quickly grew into a meaningful community resource.

Each session welcomed approximately 30 to 40 youth participants, providing a safe and supportive environment where athletes could learn, grow, and build relationships both on and off the court. Nearly half of those participants continued into club volleyball, taking their first steps into structured competitive play.

Meeting Community Needs On and Off the Court

The program was intentionally designed to support the realities many local families face.

In addition to volleyball instruction, participants received meals and snacks at every session, helping address food insecurity while ensuring athletes had the support needed to fully participate. The program also incorporated mental wellness resources, including sessions with a certified mindset coach focused on confidence building, coping skills, and emotional well being.

For many participants, the experience became about far more than volleyball.

“Some kids came for volleyball. Some came because they knew they’d get a meal. Either way, they left with something positive, and that’s what matters.” Destini Wade, Founder

The consistent support and positive environment helped create a space where young athletes could feel encouraged, connected, and valued.

Creating Access and New Pathways

In a region where volleyball opportunities have remained limited, Dynasty Volleyball Club is helping introduce youth to a sport they may never have otherwise experienced.

The program is not only increasing participation but also helping identify and develop untapped athletic potential within the community. By creating local opportunities for training and competition, the club is reducing barriers often associated with club volleyball, including travel and financial limitations.

The result is a growing pipeline of athletes with increased access to the sport and a stronger sense of belonging within it.

Building for the Future

The impact continues to grow.

Future plans for the program include lowering the starting age to as young as seven years old, expanding opportunities for boys, and continuing to scale clinics, leagues, and team offerings throughout the community.

What began as an effort to introduce volleyball is evolving into something much larger, a sustainable program creating opportunity, confidence, and connection for the nextgeneration.

Through partnerships and community driven programming, initiatives like this demonstrate how volleyballcan serve as a catalyst for stronger, healthier, and more empowered communities.
